vintage tray & slitchen.

since it decided to snow 8 inches the last couple of days...
i had time to finish working on my vintage tray.
and i used this.
this stuff is awesome.
many of my friends have used it, but this was the first time i used it.
i kept thinking about all the stuff i could paint with it.
i turned my thrift store vintage tray into a chalkboard for my kitchen.
first i primed the front and partially the back with kilz spray paint. (another of my favorite things)
then i gave the whole thing a coat of white semi-gloss spray paint.
then i brushed on the chalkboard paint with a foam brush.
it took 2 coats.
you have to let it dry a few days before you can write on it.
...and i realized i didn't have any chalk, when there was all that snow on the ground :(
so i braved the elements for a 89 cent box of chalk.
which i used to write this.
it seemed appropriate.
i also painted a little tin can with the chalkboard paint to hold my chalk.
i used sticky velcro on the back of tray, and used brad nails to attach velcro to the wall.
since it was a metal tray...i made some magnets to use on it also.
ya know, in case i use up all the chalk, and we have another blizzard.
large glass globs and a circle punch with cute amy butler paper glued from the back.
glue on a magnet and done.
it finally quit snowing.
but since it was just sitting there...
we decided to take advantage of it...with a little thing called slitchen.
it's quite redneck.
it involves a automobile, sleds, a garden hose, and preferably empty city streets, and it also doesn't
hurt to have a police officer with ya...just in case :)
oh, and  bunch of people hanging out of the back of a suv telling the driver when we've lost someone.
...and taking photos.
that's meg's talby behind the lens.
it's really the only thing snow is good for.
in my opinion anyway.

magazine mess no more.

i've been procrastinating.
for 10 years.
sort of.
i've done half the work over the years.

but now i am done saying "i really should finish that"
because i did...
that is until i receive another magazine in the mail.
so what did i do?
when we moved into this house, whenever i would read a new
magazine, i would rip out the pages of things i liked...or wanted to do.
home improvement.
anything that caught my attention.
so i had magazine pages strewn all over the house.
in boxes.
my intention was to someday put them all in clear sleeves and into binders.
so they would be organized, handy, in the same place.
...and i am so happy that i did.
i found all sorts of things that i have wanted to do forever, but could never find the page.
now i have no excuse.
whenever i get a new magazine i will just do it then.  pinky swear.
i WILL make myself.
i bought 250 clear sheets to start and 3 binders.
i filled those up in one night and bought
another 250 sheets and 3 more binders.
i've filled those up about 1/4 way.
i have all of the pages organized by categories.
i have already whipped up a few things.'ll see those on a later post.
i would really like to have that dog...she reminds me of miley.
i think they could be best buds.
but that dog bed...isn't that just adorable?
my guess is my neighbor doodles would need a steamer trunk!

if you need some ideas...come on over.
i think i have plenty of ideas to keep the whole town busy for months.
i'm thinking these cute petite cupcakes are looking just right for valentines day.
along with about 25 other recipes that are in my books.
it's so nice to feel like something is organized in this house.
even if its taken 10 plus years.

my husband sent me an email titled "think your family is weird?"
here are some of the...well let's just say, bizarre photos.
...and really, bizarre may not even be a strong enough word.

nice shirt dad!

ummm... is that really a casket in your wedding photo???!!!!

could you get a creepier looking easter bunny...and what's with the leg
in the bottom left hand corner...did he eat that kid?

what part of "dance recital" screams trashcan prop!?

who ya gonna call?  really...when picking out an outfit for a
family photo you decide on this??

...and i'm not even sure what to say about a family photo taken in
the bathroom...with the lid up...gross!

hey honey, were going to get a family photo done..grab the
parrot and the scary looking weapon!

perfect for a wedding album cover!
because nothing screams blissful wedding photo
like grabbing your crotch!

and finally....

trust me, you don't want me to comment on this one!

the dog who blogs: it's all about me. part 2

miley mae douglass

i am 1/2 italian greyhound &
1/2 wiener dog, so i am fast.
i have the bestest family
and the bestest friends.
follow my blog (most) every
monday and see the world
through my big brown eyes.

so i guess since your reading came back for more.
...and honestly, why wouldn't you.
i AM that like-able!
and if you stick your nose right up to the screen i might just lick it.
hey, i warned you!
ok, ok, let's get back to some random Q & A.

do you have any nicknames?
umm, yes.
they include...
miley bug.
miley boogers.
smiley.  (actually only sweet little ol' addie calls me that when we visit her in the nursing home)
i have no idea where that last one came from.

where's your favorite napping spot?
i can nap just about anywhere, but i prefer my laundry basket.

do you like to travel...and where have you been?

oh yes...i heart me some travel!
i love to ride in the car...especially to the bank, but i think we have established that.
if we take a long road trip i like to hop back and forth between the front seat and the back seat.
i always bring my blankets too, but now that i have my sheepskin, i think it will be my new
"must have" travel accessory.
i have a knack for making people in other cars smile when daddy's zoom's past them.
when we fly on airplanes i get to ride in my box.

which fits into MY OWN stroller.
ya, ya, ya....i've heard it all.

my box fits right in, so it's like being a VIP at the airport.
i actually have 2 boxes.
one of them used to be my friend duke's.
he got a new one, so i use his old one to play in at home.
momma says i get a little crazy in it.

and for where i have been....concordia, wichita, winfield, marion lake, dallas, and my momma's favorite,
southern california.
i'm hitting the road next month to see duke in texas, so i can add oklahoma to that list.
duke has been to like 10 states.  he is a super traveler.

i wonder if he gets travel miles?

do you have any allergies?

i have to take a benedryl  almost every day.
i think i am allergic to cats!
or i guess it could be all the stuff on the ground, like leaves & grass.
but i'm pretty sure it's cats :)

what's your favorite food?

i like it all....even if i'm not supposed to have it.
ok, so maybe not lettuce.

but because my daddy's a police man....i am fond of donuts.

don't worry dr. karen, its not a real donut, it a chewy. :)

i notice you are very fashionable....what's your favorite accessory?

i like my hoodies the best...i am hoping to pick some more up when we are in texas.
but probably the most important fashion accessory i have is my new name tag.
...and not the one that i made crafting here.
i've already broke that one.  NOT MY FAULT!!!

i ordered a new awesome one from momma's bloggy friend beki.
it's hard to show it to you 'cause all my info is on it and that's not safe to put on the web.
(at least that's what momma says")

it's got my name and info hand stamped onto a metal is super flashy...just like me.
i love it beki, thanks a lot!
....and why your over visiting beki...check out her giveaway.
it's a super pretty heart shaped necklace...perfect for your favorite human, and just in time
for VALENTINES DAY!!!  hurry, the giveaway close the 28th!

ok, ok, i hope i have answered most of your questions.
if not, drop me a line.
i'm cool like that.
i have to get the house ready for a doggy guest this weekend.
he came to meet me today, and i really, really like him.
i have to stand on the couch to be nose to nose with him.
i'll fill you in next week with all the havoc we will surely wreak.

later taters!

word tray.

remember i said i was going to do something with these.

well, i got the enamel dish turned into something fun for the kitchen.
i'm still working on the vintage tray.
this is what i made.

it was super simple.
well, if my printer would of been nice at would have been super simple.
but i'm hoping you have a better relationship with your printer than i do with mine.

find a old tray, dish, pan, or whatever. wipe it down, so the glue will stick.
i found mine at the thrift store for $2.
print out a word or phrase to fit, you obviously could use any color you want.

please don't ask me which font i used....remember printer issues.
cut out the letters.
if there is still a little white showing from cutting them out, use a sharpie or marker to match
and just touch it up.
brush glue on the back.
i used aleene's tacky glue because that's what i had.
i'm sure you could use any glue that dries clear.

position your letters so they are obsessively straight :)
make sure you smooth all the edges down.
that's pretty much it.

you could set in on your counter or hang it on the wall like i did.
just don't use it for food....if you do, i am not responsible :)
to hang it, i bought some metal hangers and glued one to the back
with E6000 glue (hobby lobby)

see, i told you it was simple...

now, i'm gonna go obey my new sign and EAT!
