since it decided to snow 8 inches the last couple of days...
i had time to finish working on my vintage tray.
and i used this.
this stuff is awesome.
many of my friends have used it, but this was the first time i used it.
i kept thinking about all the stuff i could paint with it.
i turned my thrift store vintage tray into a chalkboard for my kitchen.
first i primed the front and partially the back with kilz spray paint. (another of my favorite things)
then i gave the whole thing a coat of white semi-gloss spray paint.
then i brushed on the chalkboard paint with a foam brush.
it took 2 coats.
you have to let it dry a few days before you can write on it.
...and i realized i didn't have any chalk, when there was all that snow on the ground :(
so i braved the elements for a 89 cent box of chalk.
which i used to write this.
it seemed appropriate.
i also painted a little tin can with the chalkboard paint to hold my chalk.
i used sticky velcro on the back of tray, and used brad nails to attach velcro to the wall.
since it was a metal tray...i made some magnets to use on it also.
ya know, in case i use up all the chalk, and we have another blizzard.
large glass globs and a circle punch with cute amy butler paper glued from the back.
glue on a magnet and done.
it finally quit snowing.
but since it was just sitting there...
we decided to take advantage of it...with a little thing called slitchen.
it's quite redneck.
it involves a automobile, sleds, a garden hose, and preferably empty city streets, and it also doesn't
hurt to have a police officer with ya...just in case :)
oh, and bunch of people hanging out of the back of a suv telling the driver when we've lost someone.
...and taking photos.
that's meg's talby behind the lens.
it's really the only thing snow is good for.
in my opinion anyway.

Oh, my! LOVE it! You're totally helping me decorate my farm house someday. :) Sad we missed the slitching.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE WHAT YOU DID TO THE TRAY YOU'RE SO TALENTED!! SEE THE SNOW WAS GOOD FOR SOME FUN.
ReplyDeleteLOVE,
MOM
I am so upset we missed slitching. That was fun last time we went! No one realizes how much fun it is until you go. Every time I drive down Pine St I have to remember when you and I were on the sled in the back and we kept hitting those round metal covers in the middle of the road - talk about bumpy
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and I LOVE the magnets!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletei need to post mine too! it was very cold. i am more of a warm weather slitcher. :) but it was fun. i should show you my bruise! it's FULL thigh. from when we fell off and the hose hit my leg at 25 mph. it was worth it.
ReplyDeletenext time you'll have to attach an old beat up car hood from the junk yard! You can load more people on that way! We had tons of fun as kids tearing around athletic park that way---now that's what I call red neck!
ReplyDeleteHa! I love it! May have to try that next time it snows here!
